Our History

At Pandion Optimization Alliance, we believe there’s strength in numbers.

That’s reflected in our long history of bringing organizations together and harnessing their collective power, for the benefit of all. Our companies work closely together with a common focus—to provide access to high quality products and services, in the right setting at the right time while minimizing costs.

Whether through cooperative purchasing, aggregating spend, providing connections to trusted and vetted partners, or convening and advocating for our members, Pandion maintains a unique ability to tailor solutions to meet your organization's needs.

A Pioneer in Group Purchasing

Our Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) began more than 100 years ago when a consortium of healthcare CEOs aggregated their purchasing to get better pricing. This GPO evolved into a regional organization that provided cost-effective contracts, and eventually adopted a motion to align with a national GPO to expand our offerings. These national and regional group purchasing organizations, formerly known as Seagate Alliance, LLC. and RRHA Joint Ventures Corporation, are offered under the Pandion Optimization Alliance umbrella, which underwent rebranding in 2017.

Pandion brings together thousands of organizations and facilities spanning all 50 states to leverage their group purchasing power for maximum cost savings, enhanced operational efficiencies, and shared knowledge and experience.

What is a GPO?

Pandion Healthcare: Education & Advocacy

Pandion's history dates back to 1925 as a rural hospital project which evolved into Pandion Healthcare: Education and Advocacy (formerly Rochester Regional Healthcare Association). Through the more than 100 years we’ve been in business, we have developed key areas of expertise, forged influential political connections at state and national levels, amassed successful experiences in the many industries we serve, and continually leveraged our members' collective strength for the benefit of all.

Our Education & Advocacy arm operated as 501(c)3 and 501(c)6 organizations through late 2020, convening healthcare leaders to assemble thought leadership and provide a range of opportunities for professional development and collaboration for the 17 member hospitals and their related health systems throughout Western New York.
